NOOA: Intergenerational Digital Storytelling and Cultural Identity | Interviews Dataset

Narratives Of Our Age (NOOA) | Histórias do Nosso Tempo is a project that is part of the phd dissertation entitled Narratives of Our Age: Intergenerational Digital Storytelling and Cultural Identity. This project had the premise of bringing generations together in sharing stories on topics such as Memories, Crafts, Myths, and Traditions, to endorse the continuity of the cultural identity of the Vale do Sousa region in Portugal, using the potential of digital media in this process. 

In order to better comprehend the impact of NOOA project near the participants regarding the intergenerational storytelling dynamics for the maintenance of cultural identity in affinity spaces, a set of semi-structured interviews were conducted. The interviews covered the multiple dimensions of intergenerational storytelling, from both the seniors’ and the juniors’ perspective. We provided a space to discuss the role of digital media in the maintenance of cultural identity contents, as well as the main opportunities and challenges of working with digital stories and with digital affinity spaces that the participants could identify during their activities. Finally, we invited the participants to share their opinions regarding how we could build together new activities for fostering cultural identity maintenance in the future and what they could look like.

The interviews were conducted individually in Portuguese, the interviewees and the interviewer’s native language, with the help of a semi-structured interview script, included in the dataset.

We conducted an intelligent verbatim transcription of each interview, aiming at producing a more readable and concise version of the interview, by removing filler words, repetitions, pauses and other components that may constitute a potential distraction from the content. The final dataset consists of a set of .doc files, to facilitate further access, each one corresponding to an individual interview. It also includes the semi-structured interview script, for context.

“我们时代的叙事（Narratives Of Our Age，缩写NOOA）| 我们时代的故事（Histórias do Nosso Tempo）”是一项隶属于题为《我们时代的叙事：代际数字叙事（intergenerational digital storytelling）与文化认同》的博士论文的研究项目。该项目以凝聚不同代际群体，围绕记忆、手工艺、神话与传统等主题分享故事为核心前提，依托数字媒体的赋能潜能，维系葡萄牙苏萨谷地区的文化认同。

为深入探析NOOA项目在亲和空间（affinity spaces）内开展代际叙事实践以维系文化认同的过程中对参与者产生的影响，研究团队开展了一系列半结构化访谈（semi-structured interviews）。本次访谈覆盖代际叙事的多元维度，同时纳入老年群体与青年群体的双重视角，为讨论数字媒体在维系文化认同内容中的作用、参与者在活动实践中可感知的数字叙事工作与数字亲和空间建设面临的主要机遇与挑战提供了交流空间。最后，研究团队邀请参与者分享对未来共同打造文化认同维系新活动的见解，以及这类活动的理想形态。

本次访谈以葡萄牙语（受访者与访谈者的母语）单独开展，依托数据集所附带的半结构化访谈提纲（semi-structured interview script）实施，该提纲已包含在本数据集中。

研究团队对每一份访谈进行了智能逐字转录（intelligent verbatim transcription）：通过剔除填充词（filler words）、重复表述、停顿等可能干扰核心内容的冗余元素，生成更具可读性与简洁性的访谈文本。最终数据集包含若干.doc格式文件，每份对应一份独立访谈，便于后续研究取用；同时附带半结构化访谈提纲以提供完整研究背景。
