This study investigates the gut microbiota composition in a rat model of chronic myocardial infarction (CMI) and explores the potential impact of dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. Male Wistar rats were subjected to left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery ligation to induce CMI or underwent sham surgery. After one week, rats with confirmed myocardial dysfunction were randomized to receive either vehicle or dapagliflozin (1 mg/kg/day, orally) for ten weeks. Fecal samples were collected for 16S rRNA gene sequencing to assess microbial composition and diversity. This dataset supports research on the interaction between cardiac disease and gut microbiota, as well as the microbiome-modulating potential of SGLT2 inhibitors.
