Gunjan Bhayani. Group 1 The abundance of plant species in the grassland area at York University, Keele Campus was measured by setting up 1m X 1m quadrat on the ground. A quick count of all the plant individuals present in the quadrat was done to measure the total abundance of plants. Next, total number of different plant species present in the quadrat was measured by, doing a sum of all the species of plants in the quadrat including grass. Different grass-like species were counted as one. Later, total cover of all vegetation within plots in percentage, and total cover of grass in percentage were estimated. An estimate of what percentage of different species of plants covered the quadrat, not including grass was total cover of all vegetation. An estimate of percentage of grass that covers the quadrat helped determine the total cover of grass in the quadrat. This was repeated 15 times hence, 15 different quadrats were performed randomly in the grassland area.
