Census 21 - Highest Level of Qualification ward level

The census is undertaken by the Office for National Statistics every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales. The most recent census took place in March of 2021. The census asks every household questions about the people who live there and the type of home they live in. In doing so, it helps to build a detailed snapshot of society. Information from the census helps the government and local authorities to plan and fund local services, such as education, doctors' surgeries and roads. The estimates are as at Census Day, 21 March 2021. Definition: The highest level of qualification is derived from the question asking people to indicate all qualifications held, or their nearest equivalent. This may include foreign qualifications where they were matched to the closest UK equivalent. The Office for National Statistics advises caution when interpreting Highest Level of Qualification data due to the following constraints: The questionnaire required respondents to convert qualifications obtained overseas to equivalent levels of qualification in the UK, reducing the accuracy of reporting. Areas with significant levels of overseas migration such as Leicester and areas within Leicester such as Spinney Hill Road and Belgrave are likely to be particularly affected by this issue. Changes to the questionnaire's routing mean a reasonable proportion of residents will have identified a different qualification level than they did in 2011 even though they still hold the same qualifications.
