Here we explore how the sponge-associated viral community responds to elevated seawater temperature using the model sponge species R. odorabile. Previous studies identhfied the thermal threshold of 32 °C where microbial community begins to shift and host sponges begin to succumb to mortality events. This study exposed R. odorabile to control (28.5°C) and elevated (32°C) temperature treatments for 48 h in order to characterise virome community shifts associated with thermal stress response.

本研究以模式海绵物种R. odorabile为实验对象,探究海绵相关病毒群落对海水温度升高的响应机制。此前已有研究确定了32℃的热阈值:在此温度下,微生物群落开始发生演替,宿主海绵亦开始出现死亡事件。本研究将R. odorabile分别置于对照组(28.5℃)与高温处理组(32℃)中暴露48小时,以解析与热应激响应相关的病毒组(virome)群落演替特征。
