Patients' Perceptions of Social Support and Its Role in Diabetes Self Care Behaviors: A Qualitative Study

This dataset contains anonymized qualitative materials from a study exploring how patients with diabetes perceive social support and how such support influences their self‑care behaviors. The dataset includes de‑identified interview transcripts, initial and final coding files, category tables, and analytic documents generated through Graneheim and Lundman’s conventional content analysis. Twenty‑two adults with diabetes participated in in‑depth semi‑structured interviews conducted between January and May 2026. The analysis resulted in six main categories emotional support, informational support, instrumental support, inadequate support, the role of the health‑care system, and the impact of social support on self‑care. As noted in the study, “Perceived social support was reflected in six main categories…” and inadequate or controlling support could “diminish motivation and contribute to resistance toward self‑care.” All data have been fully anonymized and can support secondary analysis, comparative qualitative research, and the development of evidence‑based interventions.
