BarkerEtal-2019_JAE_modelDataData to support analysis of the relationship between external factors and the likelihood of an elk migrating, remaining resident, or exhibiting behaviors that were intermediate between migration and residency. Behav = type of migratory behavior (“other” denotes intermediate behavior). Dens = an index of conspecific density on the winter range (approximate number of animals in the herd divided by the area of the herd winter range). deltaFor = difference in the forage (measured as maximum NDVI) available outside vs. inside an individual’s winter range during summer. Herd = elk herd in which the individual spent the winter at the beginning of the year studied. YOI = year during which data were collected for the individual. densOwn = intensity of human use on the individual’s winter range (measured as density of land ownership, i.e., number of unique landowners on the individual’s winter range divided by the area of the individual’s winter range). irrig = binary covariate to represent whether (1) or not (0) the individual had access to irrigated agriculture on its winter range. predFor = how predictably forage varied across the landscape over the previous six years, including the year during which the individual was studied (measured as the negative six-year standard deviation of NDVI amplitude).
