Galesburg Downtown Council Extended Maintenance Area

At the February 16, 2026 City Council Meeting the City of Galesburg and the Galesburg Downtown Council (GDC) entered into a maintenance contract for service performed outside of the Downtown Special Service Area (SSA). The City and the GDC have traditionally partnered to support the cleanliness, appearance and functionality of public spaces within the Downtown Special Service Area allowing the GDC to develop staff capacity, equipment and expertise related to streetscape maintenance, landscaping, litter control and seasonal services. This agreement extended the GDC services to areas immediately adjacent to the SSA, but still within the traditional downtown area.
