本研究对日本海沟第四系与第三系沉积物中的有机质的数量、类型及成熟度进行了测定，所用沉积物取自深海钻探计划（Deep Sea Drilling Project, DSDP）第56航次的434、436站位及第57航次的438、439、440站位。研究采用毛细管柱气相色谱法（capillary-column gas chromatography）与气相色谱-质谱联用法（combined gas chromatography/mass spectrometry）对脂类提取物中的烃类物质进行了分析；通过显微技术对干酪根浓缩物进行了表征，并测定了镜质体反射率数值。[…]
