SARP 2012 Data

SARP_2012_Data is the data collected onboard the NASA P-3B aircraft during the 2012 deployment of the Student Airborne Research Program (SARP) mission. Data collection for this product is complete.

NASA’s SARP is an eight-week summer internship program for rising senior undergraduate students to acquire hands-on research experience in all aspects of a scientific field campaign. Active since 2009, SARP utilizes one of the major NASA Airborne Science Program flying science laboratories that are used to study Earth system processes, calibration/validation of space-borne observations, and prototyping of instruments for possible satellite missions. Participants assist in the operation of instruments onboard the aircraft to sample atmospheric gases and/or to image land and water surfaces in multiple spectral bands. Students also participate in collecting measurements at field sites. Research areas for SARP include atmospheric chemistry, forest ecology, air quality, and ocean biology.

美国国家航空航天局旗下的SARP项目是一项为期八周的暑期实习计划，面向即将升入大四的本科生，使其能够在科学实地考察的全流程中获得实操研究经验。该项目自2009年启动以来，便依托NASA航空科学计划的主力机载科学实验室之一开展作业，此类实验室主要用于研究地球系统过程、星载观测的定标与验证，以及面向潜在卫星任务的仪器原型研发。项目参与者将协助操作机上仪器，采集大气气体样本，或对陆地与水体表面开展多光谱波段成像工作。学生们还会参与野外站点的测量数据采集工作。SARP的研究领域涵盖大气化学、森林生态学、空气质量与海洋生物学。
