The Gram-positive bacterium Enterococcus faecalis is a natural inhabitant of the mammalian gastrointestinal tract and is commonly found in soil, sewage, water, and food, frequently through fecal contamination. Despite an increasing awareness of the potential for enterococci to cause serious infections, little is known about their virulence. To facilitate studies of E. faecalis, we sequenced the genome of an E. faecalis. This strain, 2A, was isolated from a dead lamb in Xinjiang Province of China.

革兰氏阳性（Gram-positive）细菌粪肠球菌（Enterococcus faecalis）是哺乳动物胃肠道的天然定植菌，广泛分布于土壤、污水、水体及食品中，其检出通常与粪便污染相关。尽管学界对肠球菌引发严重感染的潜在可能性的关注度日益提升，但目前对其致病毒力的了解仍十分有限。为推动粪肠球菌的相关研究，本研究对一株粪肠球菌进行了全基因组测序。该菌株2A分离自中国新疆省的一只死亡羔羊。
