Two novel primers were developed to sequence all the regions in Acetolactate synthase from grasses in which herbicide inhibiting mutations have been described. These primers were employed to characterize new ALS mutants in sugarcane. The primers were designed to be universal to true grasses and new ALS genes were amplified and sequenced for a range of species across the BOP and PACMAD clades.
