The Landsat series, earlier designated as the Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS), is a series of Earth observation satellite systems developed by the United States for Earth resource and environmental monitoring.
Since the launch of Landsat 1 on July 23, 1972, the series had launched up to Landsat 5 by March 1, 1984. The launch of Landsat 6 ended in failure. Landsat 7 was launched on April 15, 1999, and still performs critical Earth observation missions to this day.
Regarding data products, the most significant differences between Landsat 7 and Landsat 5 are: Landsat 7 added a 15-meter resolution panchromatic band (PAN band); the data for Band 6 was split into low-gain and high-gain datasets, with its spatial resolution improved from 120 meters to 60 meters.
