Soil was stored at three temperatures over two weeks to determine the most appropriate method for preserving the soil microbiome. Soil was collected from the mineral soil surface to a depth of ~6 inches underneath a native riparian California bay tree at California Polytechnic State University (N 35° 18' 46.59'', W 120° 39' 7.26''). There was substantial organic matter buildup in this soil, but it is serpentinite in nature with low calcium and high magnesium content.
