In an attempt to understand the evolution of pitchers, a carnivorous trait found in three flowering plant families (Nepenthaceae, Cephalotaceae and Sarraceniaceae), we de novo assembled for the first time the transcriptome sequence of Nepenthes khasiana, an insectivorous plant endemic to the state of Meghalaya, North-east India. We employ next generation sequencing technology to identify expressed transcripts along the highly specialized Nepenthes khasiana leaf viz. leaf base, tendril, digestive zone, waxy zone and lid.

为解析分布于猪笼草科（Nepenthaceae）、土瓶草科（Cephalotaceae）及瓶子草科（Sarraceniaceae）这3个显花植物科中的食肉性状——捕虫笼的演化规律，本研究首次完成了印度东北部梅加拉亚邦特有食虫植物卡西猪笼草（Nepenthes khasiana）的转录组序列从头组装。本研究采用下一代测序技术，对卡西猪笼草高度特化的叶片各部位（即叶基、卷须、消化区、蜡质区及瓶盖）的表达转录本进行了鉴定。
