VPRS 7157 Customer Policy Review Panel Chairman's Working Files

This series consists of working files maintained by the Chairman of the Customer Policy Review Panel, Brendan Millane, then the Director of Energy of the Department of Energy and Minerals. The Panel was established to review the then existing customer policies of the Gas and Fuel Corporation, State Electricity Commission and municipal electricity authorities and to receive and assess public submissions and conduct discussions with any party which may assist consideration of matters within its terms of reference. The Panel ultimately produced a report published in 1982 as 'Customer polices and procedures of the energy utilities in Victoria - a report to the Hon. D. R White, M.L.C, Minister for Minerals and Energy'.  The series consists of 8 numbered and untitled files that contains a mixture of mostly photocopied records connected to the panel's activities.  Contents include information papers, circulars, agendas, questionnaires, policy statements, reports, explanatory notes, photocopies of complaints sent to newspapers after a rise in electricity costs, and a booklet on how to conserve energy released in 1982. Although the great bulk of this series is of photocopied material, it has been kept as evidence of the Panel's activities in the absence of the original records. This series was originally identified and documented by a service provider. An evaluation of the supplied documentation in 2025 resulted in an amendment of the series title (from the original 'Files related to the Customer Review Panel') and to this series description.
