Black and white lantern slide showing four native African troops ("Askaris") from the King's African Rifles standing to attention in a line without their weapons. The men stand in front of a settlement, which may be a village or barracks. They wear the First World War uniform of the regiment: khaki shirt and shorts with white belt, puttees, and pill-box hats with a dark band and geometric shape, which displayed their number. This slide comes from a set on the activities of the King’s African Rifles battalions in Nyasaland. It was originally held by the Church of Scotland, and generated by J.W MacKay.
