Sepsis or bloodstream infection causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Empiric antibiotics with a rapid transition to microbe-specific antibiotics remain the mainstay of sepsis treatment. When early signs of sepsis are recognized, antibiotic treatment can prevent death and disease sequelae. However, empiric use of antibiotics facilitates antibiotic resistance which has become a global problem. In this study, we investigated a novel therapeutic agent called neonatal NET-Inhibitory Factor (nNIF) in a mouse model of experimental sepsis.

脓毒症(Sepsis)或血流感染在全球范围内均可引发严重的发病率与死亡率。快速切换至病原微生物针对性抗生素的经验性抗生素治疗,仍是脓毒症治疗的核心方案。若能及早识别脓毒症的早期体征,抗生素治疗可避免患者死亡与疾病后遗症。然而,抗生素的经验性应用会催生抗生素耐药性,这已成为全球性难题。本研究在实验性脓毒症小鼠模型中,对一种名为新生儿NET抑制因子(neonatal NET-Inhibitory Factor,nNIF)的新型治疗剂展开了研究。
