A global emissions source database called EDGAR has been developed jointly by TNO and RIVM to meet the urgent need of atmospheric chemistry and climate modellers and the need of policy-makers. The EDGAR database was to estimate the annual emissions of direct and indirect greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O; CO, NOx, non-methane VOC; SO2), including ozone-depleting compounds (halocarbons) for 1990 on a regional and grid basis. To meet the aim of establishing the global emissions from both anthropogenic and biogenic sources, a complete set of data would be required to estimate the total source strength of the various gases with a 1x1 degree resolution (altitude resolution of 1 km), as agreed upon in the Global Emissions Inventory Activity (GEIA) of the International Atmospheric Chemistry Programme (IGAC). Emissions of CH4 - from Agriculture (RIVM). Emissions of CH4 (Methane) from the agricultural sector include emissions from: Rice cultivation (IPCC 4C); Animal breeding: enteric fermentation and animal waste management (IPCC 4A and 4B,); Savannah burning (IPCC 4E); Agricultural waste burning (IPCC 4F). The emissions from deforestation (IPCC 5A1) and vegetation fires (IPCC 5A2,3) are not included.

由TNO与RIVM联合开发的全球排放源数据库EDGAR,旨在满足大气化学与气候建模人员的迫切需求,同时适配政策制定者的相关应用诉求。该数据库旨在针对1990年的直接与间接温室气体(二氧化碳(CO₂)、甲烷(CH₄)、一氧化二氮(N₂O);一氧化碳(CO)、氮氧化物(NOₓ)、非甲烷挥发性有机化合物(VOC);二氧化硫(SO₂))以及耗竭臭氧层的卤代烃类化合物,提供基于区域与网格尺度的年度排放量估算。为达成统计人为源与生物源全球总排放量的目标,需依据国际大气化学计划(International Atmospheric Chemistry Programme,IGAC)下属的全球排放清单活动(Global Emissions Inventory Activity,GEIA)所约定的1×1度空间分辨率(垂直分辨率为1千米),构建完整数据集以估算各类气体的总源强。 农业源甲烷(CH₄,Methane)排放量(由RIVM提供)。农业部门的甲烷排放涵盖以下类别: 水稻种植(对应政府间气候变化专门委员会(Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,IPCC)指南4C类别); 畜禽养殖:包括肠道发酵与畜禽粪便管理(对应IPCC指南4A与4B类别); 稀树草原焚烧(对应IPCC指南4E类别); 农业废弃物焚烧(对应IPCC指南4F类别)。 森林砍伐(对应IPCC指南5A1类别)与植被火灾(对应IPCC指南5A2、5A3类别)产生的排放未纳入本次统计范围。
