The data are the results of behavioural testing and immunohistochemistry from a study on the effects of estrogen on the development of levodopa-induced dyskinesias in a hemiparkinsonian postmenopausal rat model. The animal study protocol was approved by the Republic of Slovenia's Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection (ref. no. U34401-7/2017/9). The rats were overiectomized at the start of the experiment. Two weeks following the 6-OHDA lesion of dopaminergic neurons in the right hemisphere and implantation of either empty (control) or estradiol implants, the animals started recieiving daily injections of either levodopa or saline (control). Animals were divided into four tratment groups: animals with estradiol implants and daily levodopa injections, animals with empty implants and daily levodopa injections, animals with estradiol implants and daily injections of saline and animals with empty implants and daily saline injections. Behavioural testing included tests to establish the level of levodopa-induced dyskinesias (LIDs), rotation tests (RT) and the forepaw adjusting step (FAS) test to assess the motor performance. Animal body weight was followed throughout the experiment and serum levels of estradiol were measured after euthanasia. Immunohistochemistry with anti-TH primary antibody was performed on frozen brain sections to establish the extent of the 6-OHDA lesion. We also evaluated the changes in expression of FosB protein in animals from different treatments.<br>
