The submission contains bacterial (16S) and fungal (ITS2) amplicon sequencing data from 10 soil samples originating from snake hibernacula in the US state of New Jersey. We used microcosm growth assays to determine how well the causative fungal agent of Snake Fungal Disease, Ophidomyces ophidiicola (Oo), grows and survives in soil. Through the use of a paired sterile and unsterile soil samples we were able to assess how this growth and survival was impacted by the presence of native microbial communities. We found that the growth and survival of Oo was entirely inhibited by the presence of native microbes.
