There is a medium correlation between the teachers’ English proficiency and their intercultural competence. In addition, the teachers’ English proficiency, compared with their teaching experience, contributed much more to the variance of their intercultural competence. Among the five components of intercultural competence (Chen and Starosta2000), interaction engagement and interaction confidence had stronger correlation with the teachers’ English proficiency. ANOVA test results showed that intercultural competence increases with the teachers’ EMI teaching experience, reaching the highest when it gets to 10 years, and then decreases; however, the teachers’ English proficiency increases continuously.
教师英语水平与跨文化胜任力(intercultural competence)之间存在中等程度的相关关系。此外,相较于教学经历,教师英语水平对其跨文化胜任力的方差贡献更为显著。在跨文化胜任力的五大维度(Chen与Starosta,2000)中,互动参与度(interaction engagement)与互动自信心(interaction confidence)与教师英语水平的相关程度更强。方差分析(ANOVA)检验结果显示,教师的EMI教学时长越长,其跨文化胜任力越高,在教学时长达到10年时达到峰值,随后开始下降;而教师英语水平则呈持续上升趋势。
