Staphylococcus aureus is the main pathogen leading to both acute or subclinical bovine mastitis in dairy cattle. . Prediction of disease evolution based on the characteristics of the S. aureus strains and host/pathogen interactions studies would greatly help management of dairy herds. For this study, at least three S. aureus isolates from each of the major Canadian spa types associated with mastitis were selected and investigated in infection models. Moreover, their genomic traits such as virulence genes and phylogenetic relationship were characterized.
