Drylands occupy 41% of Earth's land surface and support more than 38% of human population. To achieve C neutralization, understanding how SOC stocks in drylands response to environmental conditions is important for climate change mitigation and sustainable cropland management. Based on the soil sampling locations recorded by the Second National Soil Survey of China in 1980s, we collected 721 soil samples in the 2010-2013 to investigate the direct and indirect effects of climate, soil properties, and agricultural practices on SOC stocks in drylands across north, northeast, and northwest of China over a span of three decades.

干旱区(Drylands)占地球陆地总面积的41%,供养了全球逾38%的人口。为达成碳中和目标,明确干旱区内土壤有机碳(SOC, Soil Organic Carbon)储量对环境条件的响应规律,对于气候变化减缓与农田可持续管理具有重要意义。本研究依托20世纪80年代中国第二次全国土壤普查所记录的土壤采样点位,于2010至2013年间采集了721份土壤样品,以期探明近三十年来,中国北方、东北与西北干旱区内气候、土壤属性及农作措施对土壤有机碳储量的直接与间接影响机制。
