EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL/DETRITAL CHARCOAL AND AMS RADIOCARBON ANALYSIS OF MATERIAL FROM PANAMA

A total of 71 samples from Panama were examined to recover charcoal or other charred
organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. These samples were collected from a
series of trenches at sites in the low elevation jungles in areas just north of the Panama Canal.
Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable
material was separated. Thirty-seven radiocarbon dates were obtained.

本研究共对采集自巴拿马的71份样品开展检测，以提取适用于放射性碳分析（radiocarbon analysis）的木炭或其他炭化有机质碎屑。上述样品采自巴拿马运河以北区域低海拔丛林内各遗址的一系列探沟中。研究人员对样品中的植物组分与碎屑状木炭进行了鉴定，并分离出具备放射性碳测年潜力的材料，最终共获得37组放射性碳测年数据。
