This collection brings together plant macrofossil and vertebrate animal remains data for the Bronze and Iron Ages (2500 BCE - 43 CE) from five widely-spaced case study areas, with the aim of informing a novel analysis of wildlife in prehistoric Britain. While the main analytical focus was on wild plants and animals, the collection comprises data for all plant macrofossil and vertebrate animal remains within the study period and areas, in recognition of the reality that 'wild' and 'domesticated' are neither fixed nor neatly defined categories. Summary information is also provided for pollen, insect and molluscan evidence and for objects made of materials derived from plants or animals. The data were gathered by Anwen Cooper (PI) and Tina Roushannafas (project researcher) between September 2022 and December 2024 in collaboration with 71 palaeoenvironmental specialists from across British Archaeology and with digital experts at the Archaeology Data Service. This work was undertaken as part of the UKRI-funded 'Rewilding' later prehistory project (Grant ref. MR/W00755X/1).
