Complete sequence and organization of the common honey bee mitochondrial genome. Apis mellifera ligustica

The common honey bee (Apis mellifera ligustica) mitochondrial genome is 16,343 bp in length and its gene organization has been determined and compared to other insects, including Drosophila. With the exception of some altered positioning of tRNA genes, the relative organization of genes is consistent between the honey bee and fruit fly.
