This dataset contains annual sunshine duration data at 1 km resolution for China, covering the period from 1981 to 2015. The data is developed based on annual sunshine duration observations from 824 national reference and basic meteorological stations across China during 1981–2015. After strict quality control and screening, the Thin Plate Spline (TPS) method in ANUSPLIN software was employed for spatial interpolation, using the 1 km-resolution topographic DEM of the entire country as a covariate. Consequently, annual grid datasets with a horizontal resolution of 1 km×1 km over China were generated for the period 1981–2015. For ease of storage, all data are stored in int16 format, with the unit of 0.1 h. This dataset consists of 35 grid data files, each named after the corresponding year. For example, the file named '1981' holds the data for the year 1981. The spatial scope of this dataset covers the main terrestrial areas of China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions), excluding regions such as the reefs and islands in the South China Sea.
