62 romantic couples (N = 124) from Christchurch, New Zealand participated in a behavioral observation study examining (1) conflict and problem resolution, and (2) support and relationship wellbeing. Initial lab-based session involved baseline questionnaires and then 4 observed couples discussion on areas of conflict (2 discussions) and personal goals (2 discussions). Telephone interviews assessed problem resolution, goal achievement, and relationship quality every 3-months for the following year (longitudinal data for at least one time point, N = 55 couples). To be eligible, couples must have been involved in a heterosexual romantic relationships for a minimum of 1 year. Females ranged from 18 to 43 years of age (M = 23.05, SD = 4.99), and males ranged from 18 to 49 years of age (M = 23.90, SD = 5.89). Of the sample, 61% were living together or married, and the mean length of relationships was 33.67 months (SD = 33.89 months). This study was approved by the University of Canterbury human ethics committee.
