Knighton Spinney Nature Trail Welcome to Knighton Spinney. Follow the path clockwise to find all 10 posts in the nature trail. Each post has an activity for children and a brass rubbing plate, as well as a QR code linking to more information about the Spinney. As you follow the trail you will learn about the plants and animals that live here, and why the Spinney is such a special place. The biggest trees in the spinney are Oak and Ash. Oak trees were planted here around 200 years ago, although we know there has been woodland here for much longer. Oak plantations like this were intended to be cut and used as timber, but these ones were never cut. Now they are protected as an important woodland habitat. To learn more about birds visit the RSPB website where you will find pictures and audio recordings of bird calls. Start with the Green Woodpecker; it has a distinctive cry called a ‘yaffle’, and you may be lucky enough to hear it in the Spinney today. Lots of birds are easier to hear than to see, so learning to recognise their calls is a great way to find out about the birds living in parks and your garden. Leicester City Council works hard to manage public green spaces that we can all enjoy. Each week, people volunteer to help by joining the Leicester Environmental Volunteers work days. Volunteers planted the trees you see in the pink and yellow tree guards in the spinney. Volunteers also helped lay the gravel path you are following and cleared brambles to make space for the wood anemones. It is a great way to spend time outdoors, have fun and make a difference. If you would like to help look after Leicester’s green spaces, why not sign up to volunteer by following this link? Leicester Environmental Volunteers link. Instructions for use The page contains a table of points of interest, images of the trail and also a map which can be used to follow the trail. Clicking on these points will show an image of the trail along with information relating to the trail.
(Knighton Spinney Nature Trail)
(Royal Society for the Protection of Birds,RSPB)官网,其中收录有各类鸟类的影像与鸣叫声频。
