This is a reference genome from a study to develop a successional model for carbon remediation in the Gulf of Mexico. Samples collected over 1 year will be used to generate comparable sequence data to characterize the taxonomic and functional response of the microbial community to the initial oil spill and subsequent degradation and dispersion of the hydrocarbon plume.
