The emergence of extensively drug-resistant Shigella sonnei in Vietnam. XDR Shigella in Vietnam

Ciprofloxacin-resistant Shigella sonnei has emerged as an important global health issue since the last decade. In this study we provide unprecedented insights into the local evolution and development of extensive drug resistance in this clone since it enters into Vietnam. Our study outlines the evolutionary trajectories of multiple XDR clones and shed light on the reservoir of XDR plasmids.

近十年来，耐环丙沙星宋内志贺菌（Ciprofloxacin-resistant Shigella sonnei）已成为一项重要的全球公共卫生议题。本研究针对该克隆株自传入越南以来的本地演化与广泛耐药（extensive drug resistance, XDR）发生发展过程，提供了前所未有的研究洞察。本研究阐明了多株广泛耐药克隆的演化轨迹，并揭示了广泛耐药质粒库的潜在特性。
