This repository contains a structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) dataset and complete analysis scripts for studying the determinants of plantain producers' intention to participate in pseudostem valorization projects in Córdoba, Colombia. IMPORTANT NOTE ON DATA: The original empirical dataset collected from 200 plantain producers (n=200) in Canalete and Los Córdobas municipalities is subject to confidentiality agreements and ethical restrictions that prevent public disclosure. Therefore, this repository provides a SYNTHETICALLY REPLICATED DATASET that faithfully reconstructs the statistical properties, distributional characteristics, and causal relationships of the original empirical data. SYNTHETIC DATA GENERATION: The hypothetical dataset (datos_sem_hipoteticos_validados.csv) was generated using the original structural equation model's parameter estimates as inputs, ensuring that: ✓ Univariate distributions match the original data (means, standard deviations, ranges) ✓ Multivariate relationships and covariances between constructs are preserved ✓ Path coefficients and effect sizes replicate the original model exactly ✓ Measurement properties (outer loadings, reliability indices) are preserved ✓ Statistical power and significance patterns are maintained This approach allows researchers to: - Reproduce the complete analytical workflow - Verify computational procedures and statistical methods - Understand the causal mechanisms of adoption intention - Extend the methodology to other agricultural contexts - Without compromising the confidentiality of original respondents RESEARCH CONTEXT: This study examined six psychosocial and institutional determinants of plantain producers' willingness to valorize pseudostem (main crop residue) as industrial feedstock: 1. Attitude toward Sustainability (AS) - Environmental values and concern 2. Perception of Economic Viability (PVE) - Assessment of income potential 3. Beliefs about Benefits and Risks (CBR) - Cognitive framings of consequences 4. Training and Support Received (CAR) - Institutional capacity and assistance 5. Difficulty in Waste Management (DMD) - Perceived operational constraints 6. Intention to Participate (IP) - Stated willingness to adopt valorization KEY FINDINGS (Original Study): The structural model explained 51.2% of variance in adoption intention (R² = 0.512): • Beliefs about benefits/risks → Attitude toward sustainability (β = 0.552, p < 0.001) [Strongest predictor of environmental attitudes] • Perception of economic viability → Intention to participate (β = 0.419, p < 0.001) [Strongest direct predictor of adoption] • Training and support → Economic viability perception (β = 0.483, p < 0.001) [Institutional support pathway] • Attitude toward sustainability → Intention to participate (β = 0.348, p = 0.001) [Environmental values matter but secondary to economics] • Economic viability → Beliefs about benefits/risks (β = 0.375, p < 0.001) [Positive feedback between economics and beliefs] • Difficulty in waste management → Intention to participate (β = -0.276, p = 0.002) [Perceived constraints inhibit adoption]
