The sustainability of Salvia miltiorrhiza monoculture is challenged by the deterioration of soil micro-ecosystems and the imbalance of nutrient cycles. Humic acid (HA) is a promising soil amendment, yet a deep, mechanistic understanding of its role as a catalyst for microbial-mediated nutrient cycling is lacking. Our study goes beyond conventional analysis by leveraging rhizosphere metagenomics to uncover how HA reprograms the microbial community's structure and functional gene repertoire. This enables us to reveal the regulatory microbe-nutrient network through which HA boosts soil fertility and plant performance.
