Shorter telomere length and suicidal ideation in familial bipolar disorder

The genetic and environmental

influences on telomere length traits in BD families were also examined, including

clinical symptomatology variables, along with suicide behavior. Telomere length and

single copy gene (T/S ratio) was measured using quantitative polymerase chain

reaction in a sample of 143 relatives from 22 families of which 60 had BD. Taking into

account the family structure, the statistical analysis was performed with a polygenic

mixed model and showing that LTL was associated with suicidal ideation (p = 0.02) and

an interaction between suicidal ideation and course of disorder was also observed (p =

0.02).

本研究同时考察了双相情感障碍（BD）家系中端粒长度性状的遗传与环境影响因素，纳入分析的变量包括临床症状学指标与自杀行为特征。研究纳入22个家系共计143名亲属，其中60名被确诊为双相情感障碍，采用定量聚合酶链反应（quantitative polymerase chain reaction）检测了所有样本的端粒长度与单拷贝基因T/S比值。考虑到家系结构特征，研究采用多基因混合模型开展统计分析，结果显示白细胞端粒长度（LTL）与自杀意念存在显著关联（p=0.02），同时还观察到自杀意念与疾病病程之间存在交互效应（p=0.02）。
