Purpose: to determine whether chronic low dose dioxin exposure in adult male and female mice impacts susceptibility to metabolic disease and islet dysfunction. Overall design: Male and female C57Bl/6 mice were injected i.p. 2x/week with either corn oil or 20 ng/kg/d TCDD (2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin). Each treatment group was further subdivided to receive either chow diet or 45% kcal high fat diet (HFD). Pancreatic islets were isolated 12 weeks after the beginning of treatment.
