Comparing Satellite Landcover and Tree Canopy Data to Ground Observations in Preserve and Suburban Environments

This research package contains materials associated with a research project evaluating the accuracy of satellite-derived land cover datasets through comparison with ground observations. The study focuses on a 3 km × 3 km area in the northwestern suburbs of Illinois containing both natural preserve and suburban residential environments. The project investigates how different remote sensing products classify land cover and examines discrepancies between satellite-based classifications and ground truth observations collected. Sample dataset is collected using Collect Earth Online (CEO), the GLOBE Observer application, and site visits.
