Aerobic photoheterotrophs (AAPs) are a functional group of bacteria that can utilize sun light to produce ATP, thus providing additional energy source. They are widely distributed in the oxygen-containing niches that light can reach. How their phototrophic capability evolved is largely unknown. We isolated various AAP strains from freshwater lakes and sequenced their genomes with the aim to address this question.

好氧光合异养菌（Aerobic photoheterotrophs, AAPs）是一类可利用太阳光合成三磷酸腺苷（ATP）以获取额外能量来源的细菌功能类群。它们广泛分布于光照可及的含氧生境中。目前学界对其光合营养能力的演化机制仍知之甚少。本研究从淡水湖泊中分离得到多株AAP菌株，并对其基因组进行测序，旨在解答这一科学问题。
