Biogas is a renewable energy source than can be generated from biomass via anaerobic digestion. A complex microbial consortium carries out the process, of which the feedstock composition is of importance for the microbial performance. The aim of this study was to investigate the microbial structure of co-digestion of food waste and cow manure under meso- and thermophilic temperatures. The microbial structure of the co-digestion process was further compared to digestion of food waste alone, to determine how the co-digestion process influences the microbial communities. All digestion processes were carried out in continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) with a working volume of 6L.
