Mineral dust and particles of biological origin are important types of ice-nucleating particles (INPs) that can trigger ice formation of supercooled cloud droplets. Heat treatments are used to detect the presence of biological INPs in samples collected from the environment as the activity of mineral INPs is assumed unchanged, although not fully assessed. We show that the ice-nucleating ability of some minerals can change after heating and discuss how INP heat tests should be interpreted. This dataset contains the droplet freezing assay data used in this study.

矿物粉尘与生物源颗粒物是一类重要的冰核粒子(ice-nucleating particles, INPs),可触发过冷云滴的冰晶形成。热处理法常被用于检测环境采集样品中的生物源冰核粒子,因为学界通常假定矿物冰核粒子的活性在热处理后保持不变,但这一假定尚未得到充分验证。本研究证实,部分矿物的冰核活性在经热处理后会发生改变,并就冰核粒子热处理实验的结果解读方式展开讨论。本数据集包含本研究中使用的液滴冷冻测定实验数据。
