No Genotype 1 Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Subtype Misclassification by LiPA 2.0. No HCV-1 Subtype Misclassification by LiPA 2.0

Objective: Guelfo and coworkers recently reported on hepatitis C virus (HCV) subtype misclassification by the Versant LiPA 2.0 assay. The authors showed that 23% of HCV-1b strains identified by LiPA were actually misclassified HCV-1a strains. Results: We performed a verification study in a subset of LiPA-precharacterized diagnostic samples by HCV core/E1 gene sequencing and found 100% agreement of all subgenotype results with the previous LiPA findings.
