Despite scale-up of seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine and amodiaquine among children under five years in Burkina Faso, malaria incidence remains high, raising concerns regarding SMC effectiveness and selection of drug resistance. Using a case-control design, we compared the prevalence of genetic polymorphisms associated with antimalarial resistance between parasites infecting children eligible to receive SMC and those infecting older children ineligible to receive SMC.

尽管布基纳法索已针对5岁以下儿童规模化推广采用磺胺多辛-乙胺嘧啶(sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine)与阿莫地喹(amodiaquine)联合给药的季节性疟疾化学预防(seasonal malaria chemoprevention, SMC),但当地疟疾发病率仍居高不下,由此引发了学界对该预防方案有效性以及抗疟药耐药性筛选问题的担忧。本研究采用病例对照研究设计,对比了符合季节性疟疾化学预防给药指征的儿童所感染的疟原虫,与不符合该指征的大龄儿童所感染的疟原虫之间,与抗疟药耐药性相关的基因多态性的流行率差异。
