An improved assembly and annotation of the sesame genome

In this study, we constructed an improved genome assembly of sesame using PacBio’s high-fidelity (HiFi) reads and Hi-C data. Based on this updated sesame assembly, we generated a high-confidence set of protein-coding genes. We further performed comparative genomic analysis among sesame and several other sequenced species, and investigated the evolutionary history of sesame genome. The high-quality genome assembly presented here will facilitate the genetic studies and genomics-assisted breeding of sesame.

本研究依托PacBio的高保真（High-Fidelity，HiFi）测序读段与Hi-C数据，构建了芝麻的优化基因组组装版本。基于该更新后的芝麻基因组组装结果，我们生成了一套高置信度的蛋白编码基因集。随后，我们对芝麻与其他多个已测序物种开展了比较基因组学分析，并解析了芝麻基因组的演化历程。本研究提供的高质量基因组组装结果，将为芝麻的遗传学研究及基因组辅助育种提供有力支撑。
