This is a readme file providing a description of the experimental data from the manuscript of Jarvis et al. submitted to Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth. The data provided in this directory is the evolving height of a sedimentary bed forced by a flow of water. The experiment takes place on a rotating table whilst a radially aligned camera captures a vertically thin section at a frequency of 200 Hz. The height of the bed in each image is recorded, along with the horizontal position of that point. More details can be found in the manuscript of Jarvis et al. ################################################################################# List of files: exp_list.csv = List of experiments including their experimental parameters. experiment*.csv = Data recording the evolution of the bed profile with time for each experiment (1-61). exp_list.csv #################################################################### This contains a list of the experiments along with the experimental parameters. More details on the experiment configuration and the parameters can be found in the manuscript of Jarvis et al. (submitted to JGR: Earth Surface). The definitions of the columns are: Experiment - The label of the experiment. h /mm - Initial thickness of the sediment bed. H /cm - Depth of water. omega_b /s^-1 - Angular velocity of the rotating table. omega_t /s^-1 - Angular velocity of the paddle assembly. Omega /s^-1 - The relative angular velocity between the rotating table and paddle assembly (omega_b - omega_t). U /m s^-1 - The product of the table radius (0.97 m) and Omega. r* - The ratio of the angular velocities of the rotating table and paddle assembly |omega_t / omega_b|. u* /m s^{-1} - The estimated friction velocity at the base of the bed experiment*.csv ################################################################# There is one file per experiment recording the evolution of the bed profile with time. Each line corresponds to one measurement of sediment height in the flume. Each file contains 5 columns: 1) Index - This is the rotation number (starting from begining of experiment). 2) Position /mm - This is the location of the point in the flume. 3) Height /mm - This is the height of the sediment bed at this location. 4) Time /s - This is the time since the start of the experiment. 5) Frame - This is the frame number (starting from the first acquired frame) from the recording which was used to make the measurement.
