Leeches are obligate blood-feeding annelids distributed around the globe from tropical to subarctic regions. Some leech species secrete various biologically active substances, such as anticoagulants and thrombolytics, and have important medical and pharmaceutical value in antithrombotic treatments. In this study, we provide a high quality genome of the Asian buffalo leech (Hirudinaria manillensis), based on which we performed a systematic identification of potential antithrombotic genes and their corresponding proteins.

水蛭（leech）是专性吸血的环节动物，全球分布于热带至亚寒带区域。部分水蛭物种可分泌多种生物活性物质，例如抗凝血剂与溶栓剂，在抗血栓治疗领域具备重要的医学与药学价值。本研究提供了亚洲牛蛭（Hirudinaria manillensis）的高质量基因组，并基于该基因组系统性鉴定了潜在的抗血栓基因及其对应的蛋白质。
