Evaluation at Land West of Heckford's Road, Great Bentley, Colchester (cotswold2-279043)

The evaluation found a low concentration of ditches and pits spread across the site with a possible trackway identified in previous works to the west also picked up in the south-west of the site. A series of ditches found across the site at right angles to the trackway may represent the remnant of a prehistoric field system arranged around the trackway while the remaining features, including a possible ring ditch suggest at least a second phase of activity in the vicinity.

本次考古勘探结果显示，遗址范围内分布的壕沟与坑穴密度较低。此前研究中于遗址西部识别出的疑似古道（trackway），本次勘探在遗址西南部亦有发现。遗址内与该古道呈直角排布的一系列壕沟，或为围绕该古道布设的史前农田系统的残存遗迹；其余遗迹（包括一处疑似环形壕沟）则表明该区域至少存在两阶段的人类活动。
