The Wolbachia approach is a public-health intervention that introgresses antiviral strains of Wolbachia (wMel) into Aedes aegypti mosquito populations to control dengue. Dengue virus (DENV) might evolve to overcome the antiviral effects of Wolbachia. By passaging DENV in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, this study aims to determine whether Wolbachia selects for DENV variants. Further sequencing of whole viral genomes over passage will identify DENV variants of interest that might have a selective advantage for replication in wMel-infected mosquitoes

沃尔巴克氏体(Wolbachia)防控策略是一种公共卫生干预手段,通过将携带抗病毒特性的wMel株沃尔巴克氏体(wMel)导入埃及伊蚊(Aedes aegypti)种群,以实现登革热的防控。登革病毒(Dengue virus, DENV)或可演化出对抗沃尔巴克氏体抗病毒作用的能力。本研究通过在埃及伊蚊体内连续传代登革病毒,旨在明确沃尔巴克氏体是否会对登革病毒变异株产生选择筛选作用。后续对传代过程中采集的全病毒基因组进行测序,将可识别出在wMel感染蚊体内复制时具备选择优势的目标登革病毒变异株。
