This document supplements the President’s 2017 budget request submitted to Congress on February 9, 2016, and serves as the annual report of the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) as stipulated by the 2003 "21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act" (Public Law 108-153, 15 USC § 7501). This report also covers the requirement for the U.S. Department of Defense to report nanotechnology investments pursuant to Section 2358 of the United States Code.
