This project aims to explore the diverse microbial communities thriving in the extreme conditions of Antarctica. By examining various habitats, including glacial ice, permafrost, and cryoconite, we will investigate the adaptations and ecological roles of these microorganisms. Our research seeks to uncover the genetic, physiological, and functional characteristics of these microbial populations, shedding light on their contributions to nutrient cycling and ecosystem dynamics. Through advanced molecular techniques and environmental sampling, we aim to deepen our understanding of how life persists in one of Earth's harshest environments and the potential implications for climate change and biodiversity.
