A sub-study of ATN 071 ("Neurocognitive Assessment in Youth Initiating HAART"), ATN 101 was an exploratory assessment comparing the results of a comprehensive neurocognitive evaluation carried out through ATN 071 to biomarkers within the plasma that correlate with immune activation, inflammation, and microbial translocation among study participants. Neurocognitive evaluations from ATN 071 were available for three years of follow-up; blood samples for ATN 101 were collected at the final ATN 071 study visit. In a subset of participants co-enrolled in ATN 061 ("Preservation and Expansion of T-cell Subsets Following HAART De-intensification to Atazanavir/ritonavir (ATV/r) in Adolescents and Young Adults with CD4 + T Cells > 350 cells/mm3 Initiating HAART), biomarkers were evaluated before and after the initiation of HAART.
